The Screaming Tunnel is an abandoned railway tunnel located in the northwest corner of Niagara Falls, Ontario, off Warner Road.
This tunnel was partially constructed in the early 1900s, however the financial difficulties of the Grand Trunk Railway in the wake of World War I, resulted in the tunnel never being completed. The tunnel bore was finished however tracks were never installed.
The structure has remained abandoned ever since. Today, it is known as the "Screaming Tunnel", since it is believed that the ghost of a small girl now haunts it. There are numerous versions of the legend, however each story ends with a girl being burnt alive and her screams echoing throughout the tunnel. According to one legend, she was burnt alive by her father as a result of a lost custody battle. It is said that if one lights a match in the middle of the tunnel, they will hear a high-pitched scream that causes the match to go out.
